আবুল পাকির জয়নুল-আবেদিন আব্দুল কালাম (১৫ অক্টোবর ১৯৩১ - ২৭ জুলাই ২০১৫) ছিলেন ভারতীয় প্রজাতন্ত্রের একাদশ রাষ্ট্রপতি (২০০২২০০৭)। কালাম তাঁর কর্মজীবন শুরু করেছিলেন একজন বিজ্ঞানী হিসেবে। পরে তিনি ঘটনাচক্রে রাজনীতিবিদে পরিণত হন। কালামের জন্ম অধুনা ভারতের তামিলনাড়ু রাজ্যের রামেশ্বরমে। তিনি পদার্থবিদ্যা ও বিমান প্রযুক্তিবিদ্যা নিয়ে পড়াশোনা করেছিলেন। এরপর চল্লিশ বছর তিনি প্রধানত রক্ষা অনুসন্ধান ও বিকাশ সংগঠন (ডিআরডিও) ও ভারতীয় মহাকাশ গবেষণা সংস্থায় (ইসরো) বিজ্ঞানী ও বিজ্ঞান প্রশাসক হিসেবে কাজ করেন। ভারতের অসামরিক মহাকাশ কর্মসূচি ও সামরিক সুসংহত নিয়ন্ত্রিত ক্ষেপণাস্ত্র উন্নয়ন কর্মসূচির সঙ্গে তিনি অঙ্গাঙ্গীভাবে যুক্ত ছিলেন। ব্যালিস্টিক ক্ষেপণাস্ত্র ও মহাকাশযানবাহী রকেট উন্নয়নের কাজে তাঁর অবদানের জন্য তাঁকে ‘ভারতের ক্ষেপণাস্ত্র মানব’ বা ‘মিশাইল ম্যান অফ ইন্ডিয়া’ বলা হয়। ১৯৯৮ সালেপোখরান-দুই পরমাণু বোমা পরীক্ষায় তিনি প্রধান সাংগঠনিক, প্রযুক্তিগত ও রাজনৈতিক ভূমিকা পালন করেন। এটি ছিল ১৯৭৪ সালে স্মাইলিং বুদ্ধ নামে পরিচিত প্রথম পরমাণু বোমা পরীক্ষার পর দ্বিতীয় পরমাণু বোমা পরীক্ষা।২০০২ সালে কালাম তৎকালীন শাসকদল ভারতীয় জনতা পার্টি ও বিরোধী দল ভারতীয় জাতীয় কংগ্রেসের সমর্থনে রাষ্ট্রপতি নির্বাচিত হন। পাঁচ বছর এই পদে আসীন থাকার পর তিনি শিক্ষাবিদ, লেখক ও জনসেবকের সাধারণ জীবন বেছে নেন। ভারতের সর্বোচ্চ অসামরিক সম্মান ভারতরত্ন সহ একাধিক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সম্মান ও পুরস্কার পেয়েছিলেন কালাম।
