The contents of this book are the simplified and easier portions of two books printed in 1956: "English-Bengali Grammar and Basic-Secondary Vocabulary with sentences (English-Bengali )". The less common and harder parts of the earlier grammar are omitted. The sentences in the examples have been considerably simplified and put into colloquial form. The first 30 lessons are the most basic, but one's needs will dictate one's choices.. In effect, the vocabulary is a basic, most common one. In practice the emphasis should always be on Bengali words, sentences and grammar rather than on English words, expressions and grammar. This will result in one's thinking and speaking in Bengali. Speaking in Bengali with Bengalis is the easiest, cheapest and best way of learning their language. To do so, the rudiments of grammar and vocabulary are necessary. This book tries to provide them.
