The 21st century may be referred to as the century of change from all critical, rational and analytical angles. The Muslim world needs not only the memorizers of knowledge but also the intellectuals who can bring about necessary changes in different branches of knowledge.
The Qur'an and Hadith have long been intrinsic parts of study in colleges and universities all over the World. These colleges and universities are in need of textbooks and reading materials in general that could suit their aims and objectives. For a long time, we have been expecting to publish such a book which is related to Islamic disciplines.
The Qur'an and hadith have long been intrinsic parts of Islamic disciplines of study in colleges and universities. There are a number of subjects in Islamic faculties of universities the world over. All these courses are based on the Qur'an and ḥadīth. These courses such as 'Ulum al-Qur'an, 'Ulum al-Hadith, Mahij al-Tafsir, Manahij Sharh Hadith, Tafsir Tahlili, Takhrij al-Hadith etc. as taught in universities appear to be obsolete in terms of methodology and contents.

Israr Ahmad Khan

Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan has a PhD in Theology from Aligarh Muslim University, India. He is currently Professor in the Department of Qur'an and Sunnah Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His main fields of study, teaching, and research are Qur'anic Studies and Hadith Studies. He has translated several Islamic Studies titles from Arabic into Urdu, English, and Hindi and has authored several works in English: Qur'anic Studies: An Introduction (2000), The Theory of Abrogation: A Critical Evaluation (2006), and Understanding the Qur'an: A Reflection (2006). He is now Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Islam in Asia (JIA), International Islamic University Malaysia. On the Editorial Board of several international academic journals, including Bangladesh Journal of Islamic Thought (by BIIT, Bangladesh), Intellectual Discourse (by IIUM), he has also published around 30 articles in different international refereed journals in USA, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and presented more than 40 papers at international conferences and seminars. He has written a good number of books and articles on Islamic themes. During 2009 and 2010, he visited Bangladesh and presented several papers in the workshops, seminars and conferences with a view to train selected university teachers on how and why to affect changes in the Islamic disciplines. Dr. Khan approaches new techniques and methods to introduce the issue and analyze it. Therefore, the work becomes essentially original.
