Preface

Faith and good work are inseparably linked. This is the fundamental belief of Islam. Why then, many a time, Muslims remain indifferent to what is happening in their neighborhood. This has often puzzled me. Why not they participate in voluntary social work when health and resource permit? In fact, most of the people are not aware of what they can do for the wellbeing and prosperity of the members of the society and, therefore, live a passive life. This indifferent attitude of the people has inspired me to write this book. In the following pages I have made an attempt to explain my experience of working in the social sector and also what other social activists are doing in Bangladesh and elsewhere. I have tried to focus on what people can do individually and collectively in the social sector without solely depending on the government. This book will help readers to identify areas where they could make voluntary contributions. It will inspire people to get involved in voluntary charitable activities, In Shaa Allah. While writing this book, I have taken a multidimensional approach, complementing one another towards social activism. There is no reason to think that my way is the only way or the right way or the best way. There may be many ways. Let us integrate all these ways.
