This is not like conventional introduction of writers of eminence including, William Shakespeare, Leo Tolstoy, Homer, Tagore or others. It is not for literary importance but historical significance, I am happy to remember a great researcher for his outstanding contribution for a district of Bangladesh. He is James Charles Jack, popularly known as J. C Jack, ICS. He was Settlement Officer, for the district of Greater Faridpur; also District Magistrate, Bakarganj (present Barishal) during British period. He outshines many of his colleagues in the ICS for his book ‘The Economic Life Of A Bengal District’, even after a century the radiance of the book has not eroded. Albert Einstein rightly said that there are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. J C Jack’s contribution was a miracle; it was neither a routine work nor an ordinary presentation. It was really an extra-ordinary research work.
