angladesh was born in 26 March 1971. But it is not a new country. Bangladesh has now a 53 years of own republic, a history of 23 years of Pakistan rule, 193 years of British rule and 750 years of Muslim rule including 300 years of Mughal rule, Bengal was present even in pre-historic time.
Bangladesh is using its own coin and currency during the last 53 years (1971-2023...), but we used lots of coins and notes of
Pakistan era (1947-1971), British India (1757-1947).
We also find coins of Mughal era (1526-1757), Sultani period
(1200-1526 AD), Sena era (1160-1230), Pala era (750-1160 AD),
Gupta era (320-550 AD) or as early as Maurya era (322-184 BC)
coins in this region.
Bangladesh Bank issued a number of commemorative coins and commemorative Curency Notes marking important historical events.
So far 12 commemorative Currency Notes and 18 commemorative coins were issued during these 53 years.
We have planned to explore these events in this small booklet.

জন্ম ৪ সেপ্টেম্বর ১৯৪৬, যশোরে। স্কুল জীবন (১৯৫৩-১৯৬৫) কলকাতায় পিতার চাকুরীসূত্রে, কলেজ জীবন (১৯৬৫-৬৯) যশোরে। স্নাতক পাশ করার পর মুক্তিযুদ্ধের কারণে স্নাতকোত্তর শেষ করতে পারেননি। প্রায় এক দশক সমাজসেবায় আত্মনিয়োগ করার পর ১৯৮০ সালে ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রী অর্জন করে শিক্ষা, প্রশাসন, প্রকাশনা, সম্পাদনা, অনুবাদ, সমন্বয়, জনসংযোগ বিভিন্ন পেশায় ও দায়িত্বে ছিলেন দীর্ঘ ত্রিশ বছর। সিদ্দিক মাহমুদ অনুবাদকর্মে দেখিয়েছেন অসামান্য দক্ষতা। এ যাবত অনুবাদ করেছেন প্রায় তিন হাজার বাংলা কবিতা, প্রকাশিত হয়েছে পঁচাত্তরটি গ্রন্থ। এছাড়াও তাঁর রয়েছে বেশ কয়েকটি গবেষণাগ্রন্থ, উপন্যাস, স্মৃতিকথা, গল্পগ্রন্থ ও কবিতার বই।
