These are the outcome of the ever-increasing experiences gathered and lessons learnt, both educative and entertaining, over the ages. A nation is enriched and a country benefited by paying due heed to their inner significance and intrinsic merit. Collection of these pearls from various countries reveal a thread of similarity in the thoughts and ideas of people living in different parts of the globe. Individuals are bound to enjoy them and enhance the quality of their lives by making appropriate use and application of them. Selected Proverbs $ Quotations in an attempt to present to the readers a variety of proverbs and quotations both old and new, both temporal and spiritual, both in prose and poetry, both from home and abroad, from which they can select the most pithy ones for application as and when the occasion demands. এটিএম শামসুল হকের কর্মজীবন শুরু হয় ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক হিসেবে। এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। হতে অর্থনীতিতে বিএ (অনার্স), আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্কে এমএ, এবং এলএলবি ডিগ্রী লাভ করার পর তিনি আমেরিকার পেনসিলভেনিয়া ও যুক্তরাজ্যের কেম্ব্রিজ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অধ্যয়ন করেন। শামসুল হক ঢাকা কলেজ ছাত্র ইউনিয়ন এর সাধারণ সম্পাদক ছিলেন। সলিমুল্লাহ মুসলিম হল ছাত্র ইউনিয়নের ইতিহাসে একমাত্র তিনিই পর পর | নির্বাচিত সাধারণ সম্পাদক ও সহ-সভাপতি। প্রাক্তন সিএসপি (সিভিল সার্ভিস অব পাকিস্তান) এর সদস্য হিসেবে, এটিএম শামসুল হক বাংলাদেশ সরকারের কয়েকটি মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব ছিলেন। তিনি আট বছর আন্তঃসরকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান এশিয়া ও প্রশান্ত মহাসাগরীয় অঞ্চলের সমন্বিত পল্লী উন্নয়ন কেন্দ্র সিরডাপ-এর মহাপরিচালকের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন । তা ছাড়া কেবিনেট মন্ত্রীর পদমর্যাদায় তিন বছর বাংলাদেশ সরকারের পার্ক (পাবলিক অ্যাডমিনিস্ট্রেশন রিফরম কমিশন) এর। চেয়ারম্যান পদে অধিষ্ঠিত ছিলেন। বিংশ শতাব্দীর শেষ ছয় দশকের পাকিস্তান ও বাংলাদেশের সামাজিক, রাজনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক রেখাচিত্র সংবলিত শামসুল হকের প্রথম গন্থ আত্মজীবনীমূলক মােজাইক অব মেমােরিজ (Mosaic of Memories)। তাঁর দ্বিতীয় গ্রন্থ সিলেক্টেড প্রভার্বস এন্ড কোটেশনস (Selected Proverbs & Quotations) ইংরেজী ভাষায় প্রবাদ ও উদ্ধৃতি নিয়ে রচিত। বাংলাদেশে এটি সম্ভবত এ ধরণের প্রথম পুস্তক।
