Educational research is unfortunately very limited in Bangladesh. However, the country needs evidence based education policies and their successful implementation in order to prepare for the opportunities and challenges in the 21st century. In-depth exploration of educational issues at school and system-level is required for their better understanding and effective planning. BRAC is better known for its development innovations. Research is an integral part of BRAC strategy which is done through an independent Research and Evaluation Division. The division has been contributing to the organization's learning, development, and scaling up. Research on educational issues was first initiated in 1988 and since then nearly 150 studies have been conducted, mostly on primary education. Although quantitative methods dominated the research, qualitative methods and techniques also got an important space. This book is a collection of five studies on primary education using the latter methodologies. Of the 25 primary schools that were covered by the studies, 16 were government, three registered non-government, four non-formal and two madrasas. They addressed multiple issues related to provision of quality education in the country.
