A unique compendium of real-life, first-hand experiences ? poignant, touching and thought provoking. Here?s a book that holds a mirror up to present-day society?? that will compel you to sit up and take notice? The victims of society?s atrocities gather courage and find their voice to narrate their stories. These heart-rending narratives bring alive the pain, the agony, the trauma and the humiliation suffered by the victims in their day-to-day life. This volume provides a revealing insight into the social and economic maladies that adversely affect present-day society in areas such as domestic problems, women?s issues, police harassment, addiction, juvenile matters and crime. However, all hope is not lost; there is a silver lining. The author, on the basis of her vast and varied experience, drives home the point that such maladies can be treated and cured if the victims could be made aware of the organizations and institutions that can provide timely help and support. The two NGOs run by the author ? Navjyoti India Foundation and India Vision Foundation ? have come to the aid of most of the victims (whose stories appear in this book) and have taken measures to rehabilitate them so that they can look forward to a better and more secure future.
