The author is pleased to introduce in the 8th edition of General Anatomy a number of new features, along with changes of colour and correct labelling of the existing diagrams. New features include: presentation of more than 90 MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) from the General Anatomy. Dissection of human cadaver is not mandatory in Indian subcontinent, and at the same time the duration to study Anatomy at the undergraduate MBBS level (along with Physiology and Biochemistry) is reduced to one year only. Therefore, MCQ cannot cover the total knowledge of gross anatomy.
Eventually, short questions in some selected topics of General Anatomy are made. Students are asked to find out appropriate answers by going through the relevant chapter. To solve some tricky questions the author guides the students, under personal supervision, to find out the target answers.
All chapters in this edition are thoroughly revised and updated. Against every figure a caption has been written. In some places existing figures are modified for further clarification. Diagrams of electron micrographs are schematic.
To prepare the manuscript of General Anatomy in 1973-74 by an indigenous author from India attempted for the first time was a robust adventure with a romantic desire, because of two reasons: uncertain future to accept the book by the medical students and the commercial success derived from the response of marketing.
