Preface
The ‘Short Cases of Industrial System Simulation’ intends to illustrate some case studies of simulation of real scenarios. It is targeted to the undergraduate students, beginning graduate students and industrial professionals learning this material on their own. Random number plays an important role in the simulation. Few random number generation techniques are explained in the book. Both Excel spreadsheet template and C code are presented for these techniques. Next, simulation cases of few industrial systems are explained for practice. They are queuing system, dentist’s schedule, departmental store, inventory management, material handling system, job-shop scheduling and manufacturing system. Real system’s data are used in some cases. Few models are developed using Excel spreadsheet and few are developed using Arena simulation software. After reading the book and practicing the model given in this book, the students will be able to solve real industrial problem of similar type using the Excel spreadsheet, to generate the random number and simulate the real systems using both Excel spreadsheet and Arena simulation software.
