We, humans, have only one life. We divide it into phases, as we move on with it, based on the direction it goes towards; such as, our student life, work life, conjugal life, and so forth. Our lives come full circle when these various phases are smoothly transitioned from one to another, and it gives us satisfaction of fulfillment and success. I think there are two key elements that make significant contributions to this success: financial security and self-satisfaction. Many people hanker after economic prosperity while seeking economic security, and consequently lose self-satisfaction without even realizing it. Then eventually they go down the rabbit hole, and morph into yet another machine in the system.
This thought always nags me like a thorn. I have a serious discomfort and disagreement with people graduating from one discipline and then pursuing a career in a completely uncorrelated domain. I find no sense of satisfaction, nor accomplishment, in such a career, no matter how good the pay is. We mostly tend to enjoy our life by mixing it with prosperity. But it has to be connected to the small things in our life. There must be complacency.
